You will need a long jump rope and a minimum of three players - two on the rope and one to jump.
Rocking the Cradle
Swing the rope from side to side rather than in loops and jump over it. This game is great as a warm-up to other games.
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear
While jumping, kids chant the rhyme as they perform the actions at the same time:
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, turn around (Turn around.)
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, touch the ground (Touch the ground while skipping.)
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, climb the stairs (Pretend to walk up stairs while skipping.)
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, say your prayers (Join hands to say prayers while skipping.)
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, turn off the lights (Reach up to turn off a light while skipping.)
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, say good night. (Wave and say “good night” as you skip out of the rope.)
Salt and Mustard
For this game, one player turns the while others jumps simultaneously. The turner holds one end of the rope and spins in a slow circle, causing the rope to swing around. Jumpers hop over the moving rope, chanting repeatedly “Salt, mustard, vinegar, pepper”. Each time they say “pepper”, the spinning rope gets faster. If a player misses a jump, they lose their turn. The last one jumping is the winner and gets to hold the rope for the next round.
ABC
You need two turners and one jumper for this game. As the player jumps, the turners sing:
"Strawberry, shortcake, treacle tart
Tell me the name of my sweetheart
A B C D E ....."
The letter you stop the rope on is meant to be the initial of your sweetheart.
